Hi RDS studios: I read a rumor on PEEL about Matt Groening telling a fan that he was working on 2 new Futurama movies. Can anyone here shed a little light on this? Thank you.

Boiler old boy, this is a rare case in which the insider isn't at the liberty to comment, but I will say this: if you or any of your friends at PEEL were ever considered writing an email or snail mail to the good folks FOX to express your support of a Futurama movie, now would be a very good time to do it. Not tomorrow...now!
Thats the news from the inside!

So insider, can we take that as a "yes" that they are making these movies? [homer]Oh please, please, please, please![/homer]

Sorry SimpoRama, I really can't say anymore about it.
In the meantime, maybe you should write a polite, honest note to FOX (without mentioning internet rumors) letting them know how you feel about the subject.
That's the news from the inside!

Without mentioning internet rumors?! D'oh.
Well, I got the polite and honest part down, and at least I didn't say where rumors were coming from. I hope others are following suit. It only takes a couple of minutes, no matter how cynical you are about this whole thing on the inside.
Also, pardon my doubts, but why isn't RDS insider a member?

Welcome to the RDS Message Board, JBERGES!
Let me ease any doubts about our friend RDS insider. The guy is a credible source of info and I stand by his claims. As far as his membership status, there are a lot of people from the studio who post here as guests...because they're lazy.
Anyway, in regards to the possility of a Futurama movie, we on the production end of Futurama -- just like you, the fans -- are keeping our fingers crossed that it becomes a reality.

Hey, what the hell?!! I'm the one who's supposed know all about what's going on in the world of animation...RDS insider is only supposed to be an authority on stuff about the actual studio, like why the tables in the kitchen are lined up in a row and stuff like that. When the time comes to break this story, that's all me. Got that, Mr. insider?

Dear R.D.S. (Rumor Department Studios), The following was posted by -mArc- at CGEF:
Good news, everyone?
Over the last week, several sources from within the animation business have indicated to us that there is renewed talk at FOX about bringing fresh Futurama content directly to DVD. We corroborated this with other sources close to the show before publishing the information.
The talk is of course still in a preliminary stage. Options reported to us include one or more Futurama movies in case of a go-ahead.
Even though Futurama is not sure to return and the likelihood of its return is currently unknown, this is the first time in the past few years that we have heard of Futurama being discussed at the upper levels of FOX. They'll likely have a good look at the sales of the upcoming Futurama Monster Robot Maniac Fun Collection.
As soon as we get more information on the Direct to DVD story, we'll let you know right here.
For a week you have kept us wondering about the future of our beloved series thanks to your mysterious and purile statements. I lost sleep wondering what was going on. I'm not trying to be insulting, but IMO RDS insider and others from this board (one who even came to PEEL) acted very irresponsibly by not following up their initial claims with any info. Is it asking too much to expect a response like the one written by -mArc- above to settle our frayed nerves? (We've had our hopes for a return crushed several times by rumors like this one.) Obviously you know the same info as the sources stated above. As members of the Futurama production team, we the fans hold you to higher standards than your average joe posting on a message board. I speak for many who are upset with your conduct and hope that in the future you will act more responsibly and keep us in the loop (even, as -mArc-'s post states, when there's no guaranteed loop to be kept in.) Again, don't take this as an insult, just collective fan angst.

Sorry you've had to sit in that soiled grandpa-diaper so long. I'll send your buddy Sarge right over to clean you up.
Thank you and come again, JHC
Bless this thread.

Y'know, I was just going to ignore SC's post, but I just can't let it go.
SC ("Steve Castle", I'm guessing?), you are one passionate, fired-up guy/gal. Your post is well composed and thought out, so you must be a pretty intelligent person. However, ther's a fine line between healthy concern and being a little nuts. And you, SC, are a little nuts. Why do I think that? Well, in what is mostly a sane, level-headed post, one sentence gives you away:
" I lost sleep wondering what was going on."
You lost sleep over this rumor? Okay, maybe that's just hyperbole, but the rest of your post is pretty straight forward and sincere -- so I kinda believe you really did. Look, I can accept being excited, calling friends, emailing FOX, searching the web for more info, praying to a Leela action figure for answers...but losing sleep?! C'mon, that's just too much! Seriously. Listen SC, we've all got stuff we're passionate about, and I sincerely appreciate that you and others enjoy the work that we as a collective group of writers and artists have created. Would it be the most f-ing awesome thing in the world if FOX brought the show back? F#ck yeah! But if it never happens, your life will go on without a hitch -- the outcome of this rumor will not affect you in any way that should cause you to lay awake in bed all night worrying. Hell, if anyone should be losing sleep over this, it's me! My life is directly affected by the outcome of this rumor - but I'm sleeping just fine and you should, too; because right now there is nothing you or I can do (other than hope) that will make these movies happen. It's not in our hands. And I thought I made that very clear in my earlier post on this thread. So when it comes to rumors, do I think it's our responsibilty to keep fans in the loop? I guess that depends on how you define it: if it means answering a question honestly without stepping over the line of confidentiality, sure, we'll do that (as we did in this case). But if you're expecting more from us, to the point where it becomes pure speculation, then sorry -- it's like going to a dominatrix and expecting to have sex -- you're not going to get that here. Hope that clears things up. We now rejoin our hilarious message board already in progress!

Greedo was a bad actor in a bad rubber mask in a B movie. Who cares who shot first?
Let's get back to the subject at hand: Will there be a Futurama dvd movie? or 2? or 3? And will the plot of supposed movie(s) include Fry finally coming out of the closet to embrace his gayness?

I'm scooping RDS insider...oh happy day! Not to start a wave of hysteria or anything, but the Powers That Be are very close to making Their decision. So...might happen...might not. If I were a religious man, I'd be praying right now. For the rest of us, take the more practical approach - buy dvds. Daily sales info speaks volumes.
