Mr. MacFarlane:
I have followed your career from its beginning and I'm a huge fan of your work, and may I just say, it is a fine body of achievements. However, I (and my friends) worry that you have been spreading yourself too thin lately and you are letting your early work, that which you are most famous for, fall by the wayside.
Don't get me wrong. Unlike most of the dumbf*cks on the internet, I loved the American Dad preview which aired after the Superbowl. I think you have another winner on your hands. The suits at FOX should literally be kissing your @ss. But what good is creating the next "big thing" when it comes at the cost of killing what I consider to be your masterpiece? I speak, of course, of your graphic novel, Spawn.
"America's #1 Comic Book". There's a good reason why Spawn could make that claim for so many years: because it was. But lately, the adventures of Al Simmons, aka Spawn, aka "the Big Guy", just aren't what they used to be. Where are the great characters like Overtkill and Tony Twist? Where is the drama we felt when Spawny faced off against his old boss Jason Wynn, or when or hero realized that his widow, Wanda, was now married to his best friend, Terry Fitzpatrick? Those days are gone, Mr. MacFarlane. Spawn stopped being America's #1 comic book the day that you stopped making it your #1 priority.
No one likes to rest on their laurels, and I'm sure this is especially true of you, sir. But please, I think you owe it to your fans, those of us who followed your early work through thick and thin, to spend less of your time on this new animated endeavor and concentrate more of your effort back on Spawn. Yes, the damage has definately been done, but just like Al Simmons, your wonderful graphic novel still stands a chance in hell of turning itself around and finding redemption.

Carlton
